The north wall of Bracken Mountain Bakery is graced by a 19 foot oil on canvas painting by nationally reknown artist Larry Gray. Larry’s paintings deal with light, time and space, and reflect his profound reverence for the natural world, especially of the southern highlands. Larry’s work is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Chicago Art Institute, the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, among others. We have been fortunate to get to know Larry while he has been an almost-daily regular to the bakery since he moved to the WNC mountains in 1997. We are very proud to be added to his list of permanent exhibitions!

A group of Francophiles has been meeting at the bakery for several years to have coffee and croissants and practice speaking French together. The group meets every Thursday from 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm. It is a diverse group of folks, speaking at all levels of French – from 1st level high school French to fluent native French. They always welcome newcomers – for a one time visit, or to join the “club”. Feel free to drop in if you would like to brush up on your French.

Bracken Mountain Bakery is located in the town of Brevard, nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The bakery specializes in crusty European style breads and pastries, as well as American regional favorites. Bracken Mountain Bakery is committed to making quality products, using real butter, dark chocolate, local honey, stoneground organic flour, and many other wholesome organic ingredients. Everything is mixed from scratch, hand formed, and baked on the premises fresh every day.

Bracken Mountain Bakery also has a strong commitment to its customers. It has become a popular place for the locals to gather for coffee, croissants and companionship and many new friendships have been formed at its tables. Over the years, many tourists have become such regular customers that they are welcomed as locals too. In fact, several have now become residents of Brevard and claim that the bakery was influential on their decision on where to relocate!
